On social media, especially Instagram, we refer to a few people as “influencers”. These people are known for having a large following of people who value and trust their opinions on various subjects. This reputation and large following can be acquired through the knowledge of said influencer, their occupation or simply their charisma and ability to rally people together.

  • Micro – 10 000 to 50 000 followers
  • Mid-tier – 50 000 to 500 000 followers

You might think that the best results  and conversions will come through a macro or mega influencer. However, depending on your goals, they might not always be the best pick for you.

Choosing an Instagram influencer to work with can be very overwhelming. Here are a few reasons why choosing a micro influencer is the best option.

  • They are more cost-effective

The cost for working with a smaller influencer is much less than the cost of hiring a macro or mega influencer. Which also allows you to have multiple influencers for your campaign than would have been possible with bigger names thus reaching different audiences and communities

  • They have more engaged followers

Smaller influencers have loyal followers who love to engage with their content. Part of that is because these influencers also engage back with their community which makes them stick around and be more active. This increase in engagement will eventually lead to more conversions.

  • They are more credible

We often perceive smaller influencers as more authentic. They share a great part of their lives online and their followers feel relate more to them because of that. They approach brand deals and collaborations in a very organic way that doesn’t feel forced which is appreciated by their community.

  • Their area of expertise is more specific

These type of influencers are often tied to a specific field. This allows them to be a lot more credible when promoting your brand. Their community will be very receptive because they have a vested interest in that subject.
