Email Marketing: a beginner’s guide

The boom of modern social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook and TikTok may, at first sight, seem to have taken the spotlight away from more traditional ones, such as the electronic mail.

Every day there are more and more companies trying to promote their brands and products in these relatively new platforms. Nevertheless, we should never ignore the power of email marketing, one of the most effective marketing channels to this day.

However, in order to practice email marketing you first need to have customers trust you with their email addresses. So, how can you achieve this?

Step #1: offer an incentive.

Your customers will not just give away their email addresses for free: they are going to want something in return. In other words, they will only do it if it is in their best interest. This means you are going to have to offer them an incentive so as to include them in your email marketing campaign.

Some examples of incentives could be offering to let your clients know via email marketing when your brands have special discounts and offering them to participate in loyalty programs in exchange for taking part in your email marketing subscription list.

Step #2: make it easy.

As attractive as your offer may be, your customers will not end up being included in your email marketing if it requires a lot of time and effort to do so. This is why you should always make it easy for customers to provide you with the information you seek, so as to fulfill your email marketing objectives.

Including a visible button in your webpage that stands out and makes it clear that that is where to click if one wants to take part in your company’s email marketing subscription list, is always a good idea. As for the information they need to fill out to take part in the email marketing campaign, you should also make sure to keep it short and simple.

The world of email marketing is a complex yet very powerful one, if you know how to work in it.
